BeWell delivers “patient engagement” software via mobile phones

Can a common mobile phone connect patients managing chronic diseases more cost effectively and to greater clinical benefit to their care givers than any other device or strategy?

BeWell Mobile Technology believes so and has developed a solution portfolio of “patient engagement software” that leverages the ubiquity of mobile phones and their associated wireless network to collect valuable information and create engagement points for both clinicians and medical researchers in real time.

Focusing on Asthma and diabetes, the software is installed and operated on commodity mobile phones that most patients already own. Beyond the cost and complexity associated with introducing and maintaining medical devices in the home, the mobile phone is also familiar and portable and does not act as a constant visual reminder of the patient’s condition the way foreign looking medical devices would.

Once deployed, Be Well`s software allows self monitoring and engagement in three ways:

Web Portal – By combining action plans and baseline targets for each patient BeWell can provide easy-to-read summary reports, including out of norm data, give a snap shot of how the patient is doing. Medical teams can determine if intervention is necessary. Patients can send text messages, including automated messages based on algorithms established by providers.

Electronic Diaries – Patients can use their cell phone to respond to predetermined questions and access summary reports. Questions can be asked daily, weekly or monthly. Instant feedback and one-button access to action plans is provided.

Reminders – Patients control the type and frequency of automated text message reminders, encouraging adherence to their medical regimen.
