Unbound Medicine pursues mobile medical applications market leadership with iPhone portfolio

Unbound Medicine is looking to become a leader in the mobile medical application market by releasing tools and applications specifically designed for the iPhone.

Unbound MEDLINE one of their offerings tracks medical journals and searches across 17 million journal citations while adaptations of current book titles such as Harrison’s Manual of Medicine and Pocket Guide to Diagnostic Tests from McGraw-Hill, 5-Minute Clinical Consult from Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, Red Book® from the American Academy of Pediatrics, and Davis’s Drug Guide and Taber’s Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary from F.A. Davis are all available via their online catalogue for immediate download as well.

While the iPhone is certainly still considered a consumer device and is not supported by most hospital IT departments, early adopters in private practices alone may provide an adequate market for Unbound to make a good living. Further, seeding the market early in this way will undoubtedly position them well as a leader in the space for when the iPhone does eventually migrate into the enterprise.
